A star roller is a tool used to make rolled stars. Typically, the term "star roller" is used to refer to a motor-driven machine that turns a drum to roll the stars in. However, a roller could consist of a rounded metal or plastic bowl like a chinese wok. Simple tools like this were used before modern star rollers were made and by amateurs not able to afford such machine rollers. Simple machine star rollers can be made simply and easily in the same way a ball mill can be made. A small plastic drum or smooth bucket can be turned on either a shaft or sets of roller bars.

Typically, a star roller should turn between 40-80 rpm. Any slower, and your stars will take a long time to grow in size. Much faster, and the stars will move too fast to be able to roll on the bottom of the drum.
