Maroon

A maroon or aerial maroon is a type of firework which is sometimes used to announce the beginning or end of a pyrotechnic display. It is launched from a mortar tube and produces a very loud single report (a loud bang). The shell itself contains burst charge or flash powder. Some maroon shells can be heard up to 5 miles away.
