M-80

M-80's are a class of large firecrackers. True M-80's were originally developed in the early 20th century by the U.S. military to simulate grenades, but were soon being manufactured and sold to the public as fireworks. Traditionally, M-80s were made from a small red cardboard tube approximately 1.5 inches long and 9/16 inches in diameter, with a visco fuse coming out of the side. They contained approximately 2.5-3 grams of flash powder compositon. Today, M-80's whether professional grade or homemade are illegal to possess, use, or make. They became illegal in 1966 and no one (in USA without a BATFE license) is allowed to make/hold/sell these fireworks. Silver Salutes are a similar version of M-80's. Listed below is an M-80 composition used by the military. It should not be made.
